Vehicle Insurance

Rental vehicle and third party insurance is included in our rates and is subject to a deductible (Excess) of NZ$2500.00.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

The hirer may choose to waive the insurance deductible by payment of an optional Collision Damage Waiver of $20.00 per day for Gold Cover with $0 excess and $17.00 per day for Silver Cover with a $400 excess.  This applies to minimum four-day hire period, the rates for shorter hires will be displayed during the booking process.

Credit Cards, Debit Cards and Bonds

Please note that we DO NOT accept cash payments.

Credit card details are required to secure a booking and your card is validated, but no charge is made until you uplift your rental vehicle. Payment is taken in full upon collection, except in the case of after hours pick ups when the card is charged in advance.  

Note: In all cases the credit card holder must be present upon the collection of the vehicle, be included on and sign the Rental Agreement. If you do not have a credit card, then a bond is required.  

The bond is NZ$400 where the hirer has taken Omega’s Silver Cover Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or NZ$2500 if the Bronze Cover Insurance is selected. 

A Debit Card (such as Visa Debit, Debit Mastercard or Prepaid Travel Card) is accepted as security when hiring a vehicle, provided that Gold CDW is selected. If Silver or Bronze CDW is selected, a debit card bond is required which may be paid via debit card upon vehicle collection. The bond is NZ$400 where Omega’s Silver CDW has been selected, and NZ$2500 if Bronze is selected. 

If you can supply us with a Credit Card as security, but wish to Pay with a Debit Card no bond is required (as stated above, the credit card holder must be present upon vehicle collection). Please note that we do not accept cash bonds. 

If you choose to pay the bond by debit card, there will be a payment surcharge of 1.99%. Surcharge charged on the Bond will be refunded only when the Bond Amount is refunded in Full. If a Partial Refund is made on a Bond Refund, the surcharge will not be refunded.

NB: Any card presented should be embossed/printed in the name of the person hiring the car, and should match the name of the drivers licence being presented.

Credit Card Surcharge

A payment processing fee of 1.99% will be added to the total cost of the hire if paid using VISA, Mastercard, AMEX or Debit Cards. This surcharge applies to rental charges and is non-refundable if the rental is cancelled or in the case of a no show.

Drivers

New Zealand law requires that all drivers be 18 years old or over and produce a valid New Zealand, International or overseas licence. We accept US, Australian, Canadian, English and European Licences. Note that to hire a specialty vehicle (MPV, Luxury SUV, Family SUV and Premier) a full drivers licence is required, ie. a provisional or restricted licence is not accepted.

Goods and Services Tax (GST)

Our rates include 15% GST

Mileage Charges

Our rates include unlimited kilometres (mileage).

One Way Hires

Vehicles may be hired between any two of our depots at no additional charge (Please note that minimum hire periods may apply to this facility).

Cook Strait Crossing

When crossing between the North and South Islands you may drop one vehicle at Picton or Wellington and uplift another vehicle in the other island or you may choose to retain the same vehicle for the duration of your hire.

Airport Transfers

These are free of charge within our normal office hours. Omega will require your flight arrival time and number. Full details of procedures will be forwarded to you upon making a booking or available on the locations page.

24hr Roadside Service

All of our vehicles are covered by the New Zealand Automobile Association 24hr Roadside assistance service for your convenience and safety.

Cancellation Policy

Pay at Counter:

• If you cancel your booking more than 72 hours before your scheduled pickup time, there’s no cancellation fee.
• Cancellations made 24-72 hours of your scheduled pickup time will incur a 20% fee, and those made within 24 hours - or if you don’t collect the vehicle - will incur a 40% fee.

Pay Now:

• Cancellations made more than 48 hours before your scheduled pickup time will incur a 20% fee, and those made between 24 and 48 hours of your scheduled pickup time will incur a 40% fee.
• No refunds if you cancel your booking within 24 hours before your scheduled pickup time - or if you don’t collect the vehicle.
• If you modify your booking prior to pickup, a $50 administration fee will be incurred. Should the new daily rate be different from the original prepaid daily rate, the higher rate will apply.

The 1.99% Credit/Debit Card payment processing fee for the rental is non-refundable in the event of cancellation or in the event of a no show.

If weather conditions should cause your flight to be rescheduled please note that your car rental charge will start from the pick-up time and day booked.  Please advise us of your new arrival time if possible, so that we can hold your car for you.  If you no longer require the car please note that our standard cancellation fees will apply.
