Drive Safe - Code of Practice

Omega Rental Cars is a participant in and has voluntarily elected to comply with the Rental Vehicle Operators - Code of Practice for Informing Overseas Drivers initiative since its inception in 2015.  We are regularly audited to ensure our practices and procedures comply with these recommendations and you can view our current certificate here:

What does this mean for the hirer?

If it is your first time driving in New Zealand and especially if it is your first time driving on the left hand side of the road, our team will ask you questions in order to verify that you are adequately prepared to drive in New Zealand and can do so safely.  Please don't be offended, we just want you and your passengers to have a great, safe holiday in our country!

If you will be arriving after a long haul flight we strongly suggest that you arrange to stay a night in a hotel or other accommodation near the airport, then pick up your rental car the next day.  This will give you a chance to catch up on some much needed sleep before you drive, you really can't drive if you are tired - the risks are just too great.

If it is your first time driving in New Zealand, please watch this video, which will help prepare you for New Zealand conditions and our road rules:
