Kapiti Island Eco Tours

Kapiti Island is one of New Zealand's earliest established, predator-free nature reserves. It is a special place rich in human history and native fauna.

Visit Kapiti Island to enjoy a great day surrounded by endangered wildlife, rare birds and stunning native bush and beach. Maximise your time in this island paradise with an overnight stay at the Lodge. We know you will have an unforgettable eco-experience on New Zealand’s stunning Kapiti Island.

How to get to the Island

You will begin your day at the Kapiti Boating Club on Kapiti Road, Paraparaumu Beach. Your tour operator will organise a ferry or jet boat ride to the nature sanctuary on Kapiti Island.

What to expect on your eco-tour!

The boat trip will take you to Waiorua Bay on the north end of Kapiti Island.

Upon arrival at the marine reserve, you’ll join a 30-minute introductory talk at the DOC centre. Then, set off on your one-hour guided walk, where an experienced guide will share stories of conservation, ecology, and local human history of the land. Plus, you will learn how to identify flora and fauna in their natural habitat.

Even if the island is experiencing excellent weather, the bush can be pretty cool sometimes, so we recommend you bring a light jacket. Also bring a hat, sunblock and of course, comfortable walking shoes.
