Option 1 - COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER (CDW) Insurance excess nil, pay additional NZD$12.00 per day (NZD$15.00 for MPV) and reduce your excess to zero. Minimum NZD$40 charge.(NZD$50 for MPV)
Note: For the drivers between 21 - 24 years the collision damage waiver rate is NZ$15.00 per day (NZ$18.00 for MPV). Minimum NZD$50 charge (NZD$60 for MPV).
Option 2 - STANDARD INSURANCE excess is NZD$1500.00 (NZD$1500.00 MPV). If an accident occurs while the car is on hire you are liable for NZD$1500.00 or the cost of repair, whichever is the lesser amount. The excess applies to damage to the vehicle or damage caused by the vehicle. This covers damage to both the rental car and third party vehicles or property up to the value of NZD$1,000,000.00.
// Insurance Exclusions
The indemnities referred to above shall not apply where the damage, injury, or loss arises when -
(a) The driver of the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol or any drug that affects his or her ability to drive the vehicle.
(b) The vehicle is in an unsafe or unroadworthy condition that arose during the course of the hire and that caused or contributed to the damage or loss, and the Hirer or driver was aware or ought to have been aware of the unsafe or unroadworthy condition of the vehicle.
(c) The vehicle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest.
(d) The vehicle is driven by any person not named in the rental agreement.
(e) The vehicle is being driven by any person who at the time when he or she drives the vehicle is disqualified from holding or has never held a drivers license appropriate for the vehicle.
(f) The vehicle is wilfully or recklessly damaged by the hirer or any other person named in the agreement or driving the vehicle under the authority of the hirer, or is lost as a result of wilful or reckless behaviour of the hirer or any such person.
(g) The vehicle is operated outside the term of the hire or any agreed extension of that term.
(h) The vehicle is operated in breach of this agreement.
(i) In the event the driver is charged with an infringement/offence as a result of an accident, the hirer's liability is increased to the replacement cost of the vehicle or a minimum of NZ$5000.
(j) The vehicle is operated on any of the following roads, Skippers Canyon or any beaches.
(k) Any damage is caused during the fitting or use of snow chains & roof racks while the vehicles on hire.
(l) In the event of a single vehicle and at fault vehicle accident the cost of towing and /or salvage of the vehicle is at the hirer's expense.
It is agreed between the owner and the hirer that section 11 of the insurance law reform act 1977 shall apply to the above exclusions as if this clause constituted a contract of insurance. The general effect of this provision is that an exclusion will not apply if the hirer proves on the balance of probability that the damage or loss was not caused or contributed to by the matters to which the exclusion refers.
