Goodbye Pork Pie...We're Taking this Car to Invercargill

Following in the tyre tracks of the Blondini Gang, in the iconic Kiwi movie 'Goodbye Pork Pie' 48 minis will be driving in procession from Kaitaia to Invercargill this Easter 2013. 

It started as a one-off to celebrate 50 years of the mini and raise money for Starship Children's Hopsital, and it seems to have become an annual event.  This year the charity has changed and the minis are raising money for leukaemia and blood cancer research, but the commitment to the cause is just as strong. 

Over 6 days, starting on Good Friday, the minis and their hardy owners will cover 2,500kms as they retrace the steps of Gerry, John and Shirl from the very top of the North Island to the bottom of the South.  If you haven't seen this classic movie, directed by Geoff Murphy in 1981 and featuring Bruno Lawrence then you are missing a piece of New Zealand's heritage!  

And if you're on our roads over Easter Weekend, be on the look out for the procession of minis, and show them your support.  It's a long way with your knees around the steering wheel!
